Pressure Reducing Sation PRV #24 Upgrades

Client: Regional District of North Okanagan

Date: October 2014

Value: $350,000

TRUE Consulting provided Civil Engineering services for a pressure reducing station upgrade for the Regional District of North Okanagan.  TRUE Consulting completed planning, detailed design, construction management, agency approval applications, and was the coordinating professional responsible for the electrical and structural subconsultants.

Pressure reducing valve #24 is located near the northwest corner of Highway No. 6 and Aberdeen Road in Coldstream, BC. The original station was constructed in the late 1960’s. This station comprised of 100mm and 300mm PRVs in a cast in place reinforced concrete below grade vault structure. When initially constructed, cover over the vault was about 0.6m deep. Highway improvements undertaken around 1980 resulted in an additional 2m of cover being placed over the PRV vault.

TRUE designed the #24 PRV replacement station with an above ground building structure, providing non-confined space access and safer working conditions for operation staff. TRUE designed the new station with pressure reducing valves with capacity for future growth and increased water demand.

TRUE designed the new PRV #24 to provide water to three additional pressure zones that were not previously connected.  TRUE’s design incorporated instrumentation for monitoring flow, pressures and residual chlorine through the District of Coldstream’s SCADA system.

The design of the mechanical system within the station was comprised of stainless steel process piping, 150mm and 250mm pressure reducing valves, 250mm flowmeter and residual chlorine analyzing equipment.
