Liquid Waste Management Plan

In 2012 and 2013, TRUE assisted the Village with preparation of the first Stage of a Liquid Waste Management Plan.

Although the Village’s existing wastewater collection, treatment and discharge system was functioning properly, this system only serviced approximately 30% of the Village’s properties.

The LWMP process was initiated by the Village with the intention of expanding the area which is serviced by the municipal wastewater system.  Goals of the LWMP process included:

  • Facilitating growth management, as recommended in the Village’s Official Community Plan.
  • Improving public health, by eliminating risk associated with aging and failing private septic systems.
  • Creating an open public consultation process, to avoid some of the challenges which were experienced when the wastewater treatment plant was originally constructed in the 1990’s.

The Stage 1 plan was endorsed by the Advisory Committee consisting of local residents, and staff from Interior Health, the Regional District, and the Ministry of Environment.  The Ministry approved this Stage 1 plan in March 2014.
