Columbia Avenue Boulevard Improvements

The City of Castlegar completed a downtown ‘revitalization’ program in the mid-1990’s which included substantial streetscape corridor improvements.  One section of the Columbia Avenue corridor which did not receive the full upgrading was the western half of the 500 and 600 blocks.

The City recently completed improvements to the 500 block of Columbia Avenue; these improvements were phased over two years.  In 2012, a 450mm diameter sanitary trunk main was extended through this section of boulevard, to provide capacity for future development in accordance with the City’s Official Community Plan.

In 2013, the surficial works were completed, including installation of shallow ducting for future fibre optic cabling, placement of new tree wells, irrigation improvements, and construction of concrete sidewalk with decorative stamps and bricked inlays.
