Why We’re Here

At TRUE Consulting, relationships are at the heart of everything we do – TRUE, genuine relationships built on honesty, trust, and mutual success. We believe that when you genuinely care about the people you work with, great planning naturally flows. That’s why we focus on building long-term partnerships, not just one-off projects. Our commitment to clients goes beyond contracts; our work speaks for itself, with satisfied clients returning time and again and sharing their experiences with others.

For our team, we create a supportive, inspiring, and inclusive environment that values people over profits. With low turnover and a strong sense of community, we invest in our employees’ well-being and success, empowering them to achieve remarkable things.

How We Do It Differently

Exceptional planning starts with exceptional service. At TRUE, responsive customer service is our Brand Promise. Thanks to our low staff turnover, our clients work consistently with a dedicated team of experienced experts who understand their unique needs and goals. This continuity enables us to deliver practical, common-sense solutions that tackle real challenges without unnecessary complexity. We believe meaningful relationships drive the best results; by staying closely connected to our clients, we exceed expectations and foster lasting trust.

About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced and collaborative Intermediate/Senior Planner to join our Kamloops office. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a wide range of planning initiatives spanning public, private, and First Nation projects-throughout British Columbia. If you have a strong understanding of municipal governance, community planning, and urban design, we’d love to hear from you!

As a member of our team, you’ll have the opportunity to work on impactful projects and apply your expertise in practical, client-centered ways. We’re seeking a candidate who values what we do, how we do it, and most importantly, why we do it. The successful candidate will understand the importance of our culture and be ready to grow within an organization that prioritizes people and relationships.

What We’re Looking For

  • Commitment to Company Culture: Alignment with TRUE’s core values of honesty, trust, and long-term client success, with an appreciation for a workplace that values people above all else.
  • Client-Focused: A genuine commitment to understanding and addressing clients’ unique needs, with an emphasis on building long-term, trust-based relationships.
  • Education & Experience: A degree in planning, urban design, or a related field, complemented by a minimum of four years of relevant experience in municipal planning and land development.
  • Skilled Communicator: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear and compelling reports and presentations.
  • Engagement & Consultation: Proven experience in public consultation and stakeholder engagement, with a collaborative approach to community planning.
  • Indigenous Planning Experience: Experience working with First Nation communities, including an understanding of Indigenous governance structures, land use planning, and community engagement practices.
  • Collaborative & Detail-Oriented: A team player with strong collaboration skills, a proactive work ethic, and excellent attention to detail in a supportive, team-focused environment.
  • Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated expertise in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, ArcGIS, AutoCAD, SketchUp, and emerging AI technologies, with a strong ability to integrate these tools into planning and urban design workflows.
  • Professional Memberships: Membership or candidate membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners.
  • Mobility & Flexibility: A Class 5 Driver’s License, with the ability to travel as needed for project work and client engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Client Collaboration: Work closely with local governments, First Nation communities, and private sector clients to deliver thoughtful, context-sensitive planning solutions.
  • Planning & Design: Conduct research and contribute to the development of creative and practical planning and urban design strategies, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Public & Stakeholder Engagement: Prepare, lead and support community engagement strategies, public consultation sessions, open houses, and stakeholder workshops.
  • Project Management: Develop proposals, work plans, schedules, and budgets, ensuring alignment with client objectives and established timelines.
  • Presentation & Reporting: Present findings and recommendations to councils, committees, and community groups, supported by clear, well-organized reports and visual materials.
  • Multitasking & Delivery: Manage multiple concurrent projects, maintaining a high standard of quality, accuracy, and responsiveness.
  • Travel as needed within BC’s interior for project meetings, site visits, industry events, and community engagement events.
