483 Water Reservoir

Client:  Keremeos Irrigation District

Date:  July 2014

Value:  $1,335,000

Prior to this project, the Keremeos Irrigation District utilized several balancing tanks for water storage volume for fire protection and for supply during short-duration power failures. These balancing tanks did not provide sufficient volume for the fire protection required by the Village of Keremeos bylaws.

It was decided that a storage reservoir be constructed in the west zone to make up for the deficiencies in storage capacity.  The proposed reservoir would increase pressure in the west zone, provide sufficient emergency storage for both the east and west zones and would improve the reliability of the system as a whole.  The reservoir is constructed as two cells that can be isolated from one another, allowing the reservoir to operate as a single cell during periods of low demand (ie. winter).  The design of the reservoir is such that the west balancing tank will eventually be removed from service, while the east balancing tank will remain in operation.

The 483 Reservoir project included:

  • 2,000m³ cast-in-place reservoir
  • Cast-in-place valve chamber
  • 350ø and 300ø pipes and valve work to supply and drain the proposed reservoir
  • Construction of an overflow detention pond
  • Upgrade of system controls to incorporate new reservoir into system

TRUE Consulting provided detailed design, construction management, agency approval applications, and was the coordinating professional responsible for the electrical and structural subconsultants.
