Cawston Avenue Multi Use Corridor

As part of the Federal Government's stimulus package, City of Kelowna expanded its network of multi-use pathways, including a 1.5km section along Cawston Avenue which connects the 'Rails for Trails' path to the downtown waterfront. After concept development and consultations with the various stakeholders, the project increased in scope to include significant utility upgrades

(watermain, sanitary and storm) along Cawston Avenue and north along Ethel Street.

The detailed design of the tight road and path cross section required significant consideration and consultation to address interface issues with businesses, home owners, civic buildings, multi-family sites, developments and churches. The sewer upgrading work was complicated by depths greater than 5m and a 100m long trenchless crossing under Brandt's Creek and the KPR railway. The project will be completed in the Spring of 2011.
